Fearless. Beautiful. Gracious. Humble. Magnificent. Courageous. Giving. Caring. Self-less.
These are all the words I would use to describe Aung San Suu Kyi, the Nobel Peace Prize laureate of Burma. Every Burmese people have grown up hearing of her. She is simply the face of Burma. She has truly exemplify what it means to be a Burmese person.
She has sacrificed so much. She has sacrificed her marriage for my country, Burma. She told her husband, now deceased that if she got married, she would one day have to go back home and be with her people. She has sacrificed her children for Burma. It’s hard to be a leader of your own country and mother, especially when you are forbidden to see your own children! She even said herself, that she is a bad mother! She has sacrificed her happiness. She has even sacrificed her freedom when she was under house arrest for 15 years!
She is a legendary heroine in Burma! Burmese people both at home and abroad are very proud of her. We will never forget what she has done for the Burmese people.
She is an incredible woman figure. She is feminine, elegant, and graceful. She is highly intelligent and politically savvy, and most of all loving and self-giving!
She is truly my inspiration. It is my dream to meet her one day!
One of the reasons why Daw Aung San Suu Kyi is such an incredible person in Burma is because her father Bogyoke Aung San was literally the Burmese George Washington! Her father founded the Burmese Army and fought against the British Army to gain independence from the UK. She is her father’s most important and amazing legacy.
That’s why us Burmese people love her! When we see and hear her, we see her father in her.
She has been compared to Nelson Mandela, the South African man who spent 27 years in prison to fight against apartheid, basically racial segregation in South Africa.
I wish you, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, many years of life and happiness. I hope you will be able to be our President.
Thank you so much for everything you have done. You are the most amazing person to me.
Many people have a hard time pronouncing her name. Comedian Jim Carrey did a great job on how to pronounce her name!
*Daw, is a Burmese honorific meaning madam. It is a title given to older woman, it is similar to Miss, Ms, and Mrs. for women.
